Self-tuning damper for chatter suppression in machining processes.

Self-tuning damper for chatter suppression in machining processes.

Gorka Aguirre, researcher in the micro-technology and ultraprecision line, presented an inerter damper with automatic tuning for chatter suppression in machining processes at the ISMA Congress, International Conference on Noise and Vibration Engineering held in Leuven, Belgium. The damper continuously detects the optimum tuning frequency during the machining process and is capable of adapting itself, thus increasing process stability and consequently achieving higher productivity.

This damper has been developed within the European Project DYNXPERTS, led by IK4-IDEKO, which focuses on the development of 'plug-and-produce' solutions to improve productivity and quality in manufacturing processes through the development of new elements and functions to enhance the dynamic characteristics of machine tools.

ISMA is a leading international conference in the field of dynamics and vibrations, attended by more than 600 participants.
