IDEKO to Present Multiphysics Simulation Approach for Hydrostatic Rotary Table Design at NAFEMS World Congress 2025

The Basque technology center IDEKO has participated in the NAFEMS World Congress 2025, the leading international conference dedicated exclusively to engineering simulation, held in Austria. Represented by Markel Alaña, researcher in the Precision Engineering group, showcased its latest research on simulation-driven design of hydrostatic rotary tables—key components in high-precision machining systems.

Titled "Multiphysics Simulation-Driven Design of Hydrostatic Rotary Table", the presentation introduces a finite element multiphysics model that analyzes the coupled structural and hydraulic behavior of hydrostatic rotary tables. By integrating solid elasticity and fluid interaction, the model significantly improves the accuracy of pressure distribution, gap variation, and deformation prediction—resulting in more efficient and reliable designs.

The study highlights how structural deformations greatly influence hydrostatic performance, affecting gap uniformity, system stiffness and power consumption. Additionally, surrogate modeling techniques, particularly neural networks, are investigated to accelerate the design process. These models demonstrate high accuracy with fewer training data points, offering powerful tools for optimization and sensitivity analysis.

IDEKO’s work delivers a robust framework for the development of cost-effective, high-performance hydrostatic rotary tables. By combining multiphysics simulation with machine learning, engineers are able to enhance design precision while reducing computational effort. Future efforts will focus on including thermal effects in the simulation and validating the model experimentally to further increase its predictive capabilities.

The NAFEMS World Congress brings together over 300 experts and professionals from the field of simulation for four days, featuring technical sessions, workshops and one of the most comprehensive exhibitions of software and hardware dedicated exclusively to engineering simulation.
