Within the framework of the European Union’s “Twin Transition” strategy – combining green and digital transformation – and in line with the ambitious targets set by initiatives such as Clean Aviation, the digitalisation of aerospace manufacturing plants has become a key enabler for achieving a more sustainable and decarbonised industry.

At the same time, the increasing use of lighter and more complex materials demands zero-defect production and maximum energy efficiency.

In this context, capturing and intelligently analysing shopfloor data is no longer an option, but a critical requirement to comply with strict European regulations and increasingly demanding production targets.

To address these challenges, IDEKO and Savvy Data Systems will present their solutions for the digitalisation of aerospace factories at the next edition of Advanced Factories, taking place in Barcelona from 5 to 7 May.

Through real use cases already deployed in leading aerospace companies, the two organisations will showcase a joint value proposition that combines IDEKO’s expertise in advanced manufacturing with Savvy Data Systems’ technology for data capture, processing and analytics.

The solutions on display will demonstrate how the implementation of real-time monitoring systems, full traceability and predictive maintenance enables manufacturers to reduce cycle times and ensure the highest quality standards, bringing the sector closer to the levels of competitiveness and sustainability required by Europe.

“We will be presenting technologies that have already been applied and validated in real aerospace manufacturing environments. These are solutions designed to tackle industrial monitoring and control challenges, helping manufacturers improve the reliability, quality and availability of high value-added production processes through data and artificial intelligence,” explains Iñigo Bediaga, Head of ICT and Automation at IDEKO.

To illustrate the practical application of these technologies, the stand, located at 2B313, will feature the Savvy Fog demonstrator. This tool enables IDEKO’s automation solutions to be deployed directly within the customer’s own infrastructure, making it possible to process, store and analyse data at plant level.

This approach delivers the same performance as cloud-based systems while ensuring low latency and full data sovereignty. Such privacy and control are essential requirements in highly regulated sectors such as aerospace and defence.

Processing information in real time

As part of a collaboration that began more than a decade ago, IDEKO contributes its in-depth expertise in advanced manufacturing technologies to develop algorithms and software applications for machines and production processes based on the analysis of high-frequency data, such as vibration signals.

Savvy’s technology allows these algorithms to be deployed at the Edge, directly next to the machine. Savvy SmartEdge enables information to be processed in real time and immediate action to be taken on the process, even stopping the machine or adjusting its parameters according to the algorithm’s recommendations.

This allows manufacturers to anticipate potential issues before they occur, significantly reducing costs and ensuring that the right data reaches the right person or system, exactly when and where decisions need to be made.

“Industrial processes move fast. The faster and more effective the decision-making and the subsequent action, the greater the return on investment. To achieve this, our systems deploy mathematical models and artificial intelligence as close to the machines as possible, enabling them to act instantly,” says Fernando Sáenz, CEO of Savvy Data Systems.

These solutions, which can also be applied to other highly demanding sectors such as energy, railways and automotive, generate a tangible business impact across four key dimensions: the machine, through condition monitoring; the process, by improving stability; the product, by ensuring quality; and sustainability, through the efficient management of energy and raw materials.
