MITIGA

Intelligent technologies to eliminate vibrations and increase industrial productivity

Vibrations are one of the main challenges faced in many industrial environments. Their occurrence directly affects process accuracy, product quality, equipment productivity and maintenance costs. Sectors as diverse as large-component manufacturing, mining and the naval industry face daily challenges arising from complex dynamic phenomena that limit the performance of their production assets.

In this context, MITIGA was launched with the objective of developing a new generation of intelligent damping technologies capable of improving the dynamic behaviour of machines, equipment and industrial processes. To achieve this, the project combines advanced vibration absorption solutions, active and passive damping systems, embedded sensing technologies, continuous monitoring and artificial intelligence to enhance the stability and reliability of industrial systems.

THE CHALLENGE

The main challenge of MITIGA is to develop systems capable of responding intelligently to complex and changing vibrations, both forced and self-excited, under real operating conditions.

To address this challenge, the project investigates new dynamic control strategies and develops intelligent dampers capable of adapting to different industrial scenarios. These systems integrate actuation, sensing and real-time analysis capabilities, enabling continuous monitoring of the dynamic condition of equipment and anticipating potential issues before they impact production.

Another key challenge is the integration of artificial intelligence technologies to interpret large volumes of sensor data, identify behavioural patterns, detect anomalies at an early stage and generate knowledge that supports operational decision-making.

The technologies developed within the project are validated in three representative industrial applications: the manufacturing of large components using advanced fixtures, industrial ventilation systems for mining applications, and the machining of components for marine propellers.

THE RESULT

MITIGA will deliver new solutions aimed at improving the dynamic stability of industrial equipment and significantly reducing the impact of vibrations on manufacturing processes.

One of the main developments is HIGH-DYN FIXTURE, an intelligent modular fixture equipped with damping systems that increase dynamic stiffness during the manufacturing of large components. The project also develops SMOOTH FAN, a solution for industrial ventilation systems designed to reduce resonances and vibrations, improving reliability while lowering maintenance requirements.

In the field of naval machining, MITIGA develops ENHANCED PART MACHINING, an advanced solution that incorporates active vibration reduction technologies to increase productivity and improve the quality of manufacturing processes for propeller components.

In addition to these applications, the project generates high-value cross-cutting technologies, including new control strategies based on the Virtual Vibration Absorber (VVA) concept, intelligent monitoring platforms based on machine learning, and dashboards for the remote monitoring and analysis of equipment dynamic behaviour.

Through these developments, MITIGA will contribute to increasing industrial productivity, reducing downtime, lowering maintenance costs, and improving the quality and reliability of manufacturing processes.
