Enhancing surface-breaking flaw detection by Induction Thermography using Flux®
At present, increasing numbers of industries are interested in new non-destructive techniques that permit the replacement of magnetic particle and dye penetrant inspection. Induction Thermography (IT) used for the inspection of metallic materials has the ability to inspect complex geometries, providing excellent surface crack detection sensitivity. The potential of Finite Element (FEM) simulations applied to IT is of greater utility regarding coil design and the distribution of the induced currents and consequently the temperature gradient behavior. Thus, Flux 3D contributes to analyze the detectability of specimens’ surface cracks before lab trials. A critical factor lies with the inspection of complex geometries pieces in which Flux 3D tools allow the proper simplification of the interested area.
