Amaia Agirre, researcher of the Microtechnology and Ultra-precision ...

Amaia Agirre, a researcher from the Microtechnology and Ultra-precision Research Line has spent three months at Rutgers University in the State of New Jersey, USA. During her stay she worked in the Research Laboratory for Automation and Manufacturing, in particular on micro-manufacturing processes. This research group is led by the renowned Professor Trugrul Özel, an associate member of the CIRP: http://www.rci.rutgers.edu/~ozel/CV-Dr_Tugrul_Ozel.pdfAmaia's work focuses on the study of the micro-milling process, dealing both with theoretical aspects of behaviour prediction and conducting experimental tests for validation. The project is aimed at studying micro-milling of thin walls, in which the process variables that affect the final quality of the piece are studied, paying particular attention to the resulting topography and the generation of burrs on the edges. The main application for this type of machining is the production of miniaturised heat exchangers for high-performance electronic components.
