According to the present invention a measuring method and equipment for determining the section and the diameter of the wheel of a moving railway vehicle is proposed, which allows obtaining precise measurements regardless of the orientation and location of the axis of the wheel. Likewise, the method allows the measuring equipment to adopt any geometry, i.e., the measuring elements can be arranged in an arbitrary position.
