ALLIANCES AND COLLABORATIONS
Through IK4, we pool resources in order to reach higher levels of scientific-technological excellence and transfer knowledge to the business sector.
This greater critical mass means that IK4 is bringing together more than 1350 professionals and has a private customer portfolio of 1500 companies, which allows it to position itself as a leader in the main research support programs of several governmental bodies. In 2010, the Alliance had an overall income greater than 94 million Euro in R&D&I. Private and independent, IK4 has managed to position itself as the leading body in the Basque Science, Technology and Innovation system as well as in the European technology environment. In carrying out this task it has been important to orientate its capabilities to the market, which has been achieved by grouping its resources around 8 scientific-technological units: biotechnology and biomaterials, micro and nanotechnologies, environment and recycling, energy, industrial management and production, mechatronics, materials and processes, and information and communication technologies.
IK4-Ideko has a specialisation approach to Manufacturing and Industrial Production technologies and it forms part of leading associations and organisations in different territorial areas. CIC Margune, of which IK4-Ideko is a founding member, is a benchmark in the Basque Country while CIRP (The International Academy for Production Engineering) is the worldwide leading research organisation in the field of production engineering, spanning different areas such as design, optimisation, process control and management, machines and systems. Currently, CIRP has some 170 active members (fellows), renowned scientists from more than 40 countries, members like Dr. Zatarain (Scientific doctor from IK4-Ideko and only Spanish representative at present) who have demonstrated excellence in research after an extensive career of publications in the field of manufacturing. Furthermore, CIRP has 130 associate members, among whom is our researcher in Machining Processes D. Barrenetxea, all have great research potential in their respective subjects.

Furthermore, IK4-Ideko has been very active since its start in international R&D programmes supported by the European subsidy Framework Programmes. Over the years it has formed a strong network of international allies with whom it shares knowledge and experience, and in this way it continues its research in the field of manufacturing and production technologies.
